Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission

In 2006, the Department of Defense Office of Personnel and Readiness, in cooperation with the Council of State Governments and National Center for Interstate Compacts, drafted the Interstate Compact on Education Opportunities for Military Children to address some of the education challenges transitioning children of military families encounter.

Currently, the 50 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.) are members of the Compact, and the Department of Defense is ex-officio, non-voting member of the Commission.

An interstate compact is an agreement among states to abide by a specific set of administrative rules regarding a specific concern or issue – in this instance, the interstate transfer of military, school-aged youth attending public and Department of Defense schools worldwide. While the Compact is not exhaustive in its coverage, it addresses key issues encountered by military families: eligibility, enrollment, placement, and graduation. The goal of the Compact is to replace the widely varying policies affecting transitioning military students.

“GotMySix”

In military speak, when someone has “got your six,” they’re looking out for your well-being. CHAMP’s “Got My Six” challenge gives the Military Community a chance to recognize those who provide social support to them – which is one of the key tenets of Total Force Fitness (TFF).

#GotMySix Family Toolkit 2024

Two additional ways to become a “Got My Six” CHAMPion:

  1. Print this “Got My Six” sign with the name of who’s got your six. Photograph yourself holding the sign or record a short video thanking your “Got My Six” supporter.
  2. Request an in-person “Got My Six” board kit to create a gratitude board for your classroom, family, office, or unit. Requests can be made through email at champ_gotmysix@usuhs.edu. Each kit includes:
  • 1 instruction poster
  • 50 #GotMySix fact sheets
  • 50 Social support resource cards
  • 50 Shout-out post cards
  • 50 Gratitude calendars

All are welcome to participate: Individuals, friends, family, coworkers, and military units!
