Military Child Education Coalition Recognizes Distinguished Contributions to Science

Harker Heights, TX – July 31,2024 – The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) is proud to select Dr. Abigail Gewirtz as the 2024 Military Children’s Dr. Mary Keller Award for Distinguished Contributions to Science. The award highlights exceptional achievement through academic research, clinical application, scholarship integration, and the dissemination of knowledge-to-practice.

“The MCEC Science Advisory Board deliberates in a measured and well-informed manner to identify the person to be honored each year,” said Dr. Rebecca Porter, President and CEO of MCEC. ” My heartiest congratulations go out to Dr. Gewirtz, and more than that, my appreciation for the work she does to help us all understand military families.”

Presented by SAB Co-Chair COL (Ret.) Eric Flake, MD, Dr. Gewirtz accepted the award through a video message on July 31, 2024 during the MCEC Global Training Summit in Washington, DC. In her message, she shares:

“I am honored to be this year’s recipient of the Mary Keller Award for Distinguished Contribution to Science from the Military Child Education Coalition. I am really accepting this award not for myself, but for our incredible village of people who have been involved in our series of studies with military families over the past nearly 15 years.”

We have a team of people but they really are a remarkable community, military families like yourselves who really wanted to contribute to science, military providers, military leaders and our incredible staff and faculty. It has really been the privilege of my working life to be able to work with our nation’s military families.”
