MCEC Opens 2025 Call for the Arts – Spotlighting Creativity and Stories of Military-Connected Students

HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — The Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) proudly announces the launch of its 23rd Annual Call for the Arts, inviting military-connected students from around the world to share their stories through creative expression. For nearly a quarter of a century, this program has amplified the voices of military-connected children—revealing lives shaped by service, sacrifice, and strength. Submissions are open now through April 30, 2025, welcoming visual art, photography, writing, performance, video, and multimedia works. “Military children experience the world in extraordinary ways, and the Call for the Arts shines a spotlight on their unique perspectives,” said Mary Bier, MCEC President and CEO. “This program celebrates their creativity and provides a meaningful platform for their voices to be heard.”

Recognizing Talent, Celebrating Stories

Entries will be judged in three grade categories — PreK-5, 6-8, and 9-12 — with cash prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, plus special Spotlight recognitions.

Winning artists will:

  • Be honored at the MCEC Global Training Summit in Washington, DC, July 8-10, 2025.
  • See their work featured in MCEC’s 2026 calendar, publications, and social media.
  • Inspire others through year-round exhibits and outreach materials.

Why It Matters

Military-connected students move, adapt, and grow amid challenges and opportunities most children never face. The Call for the Arts not only highlights their creativity but also offers a powerful look at life through their eyes — stories that resonate far beyond military communities. Educators, parents, and community leaders are encouraged to share this opportunity with students and help them showcase their talents.
