Military Child Education Coalition Names Mary Bier as New President and CEO
The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) proudly announces Mary Bier, MBA, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Dr. Becky Porter, effective January 2025. Bier, a strategic leader, military spouse, and longtime advocate for military-connected families, brings over 15 years of proven expertise in business strategy, organizational leadership, and community engagement to her new role.
Admiral (Ret) Cecil D. Haney, MCEC Chairman of the Board, expressed confidence in the leadership transition. “Mary Bier’s exceptional skills in strategy, relationship management, and her deep understanding of military family challenges make her an outstanding choice to lead MCEC into its next chapter,” said Haney. “We are immensely grateful to Dr. Porter for her years of dedicated service. Her leadership has been instrumental in strengthening MCEC’s foundation and ensuring a seamless transition that positions us for future success.”
With career spanning roles in business strategy and military-connected initiatives, Bier’s impressive resume includes consulting for nonprofits and serving as a subject matter expert on veteran and military family issues. She has been a key voice on panels addressing veteran well-being, presented testimony to New York City’s Department of Veteran Affairs, and was invited to the White House to share her insights on military-connected data and programs.
Bier’s unique perspective as a military spouse and parent has shaped her passion for advocating for educational equity and social opportunities for military children. “I am honored to join MCEC, an organization I deeply admire for its unwavering commitment to military-connected children and families,” said Bier. “I am excited to collaborate with educators, families, and stakeholders to champion the needs of military children. Together, we will amplify MCEC’s impact and elevate it as the cause of choice for supporters of military-connected initiatives.”
Bier steps into her new role at a pivotal time for MCEC, as the organization continues to expand its reach in ensuring quality education and opportunities for military-connected children worldwide. Under Bier’s leadership, MCEC is poised to build on its legacy of service and advocacy, ensuring that military families remain a priority for communities and policymakers.
Dr. Porter leaves an enduring legacy, having strengthened partnerships, expanded programs, and guided the organization through significant growth. Her contributions have set a strong foundation for MCEC’s continued success.
