Military Child Education Coalition CEO to Retire

Harker Heights, TX – September 3, 2024 – The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) announces the retirement of CEO and President Dr. Becky Porter within the coming year. Dr. Porter, a clinical psychologist, and retired US Army Colonel led the organization for the past five years and shepherded MCEC through a period of both change and growth during COVID-19. Under her leadership, MCEC offered virtual resources well before the pandemic, preparing the organization to meet the needs of military families as the nation moved to virtual schooling.

Following 38 years in uniform as an Active Duty, National Guard, and Army Reserve Soldier, Dr. Porter began her 5-year tenure at the MCEC helm where she continued to serve military children. A member of the MCEC Science Advisory Board for 11 years prior to assuming CEO duties, she participated in research efforts to better understand the challenges military children and their parents face while serving the nation.

“It has been my honor and privilege to wear the cloth of our country and serve both as a Soldier and the leader of MCEC, an organization dedicated to the children of our nation’s service members across all branches, the National Guard, Reserves, and Veterans. After more than four decades of service, I look forward to spending more time with my family. I am confident the next MCEC CEO will carry on this important mission, and I stand ready to support those efforts,” said Dr. Porter.
